AFRICA AND ITS SPECIALTY FOODS
The Need for Exotic Taste of Africa
Africa is the world’s second largest, second most populous continent and diverse with hundreds of different cultures and categories of people. The diversity is reflected in the ethnicities, languages, cultures, and countless indigenous culinary traditions with regards to traditional African food; the ingredients used, method of preparation and cooking practices. Despite Africa’s cultural diversity, its foods are still eluding the shelves of numerous main stream U.S. grocery stores and homes. Africa is blessed with abundant wealth of natural resources, food materials included and yet it’s not known for the diverse indigenous foods it has to offer the rest of the world.
African specialty foods are foods usually deemed unique, high value, organic and natural quality ingredients, insufficient in quantity. The African specialty foods category is limited and negligible, especially in the United States. But with this platform, Dezefoods is determined to bring awareness to this neglected area and be the only source to meeting the needs of both Africans and non-Africans in diaspora.
The African specialty food is lagging behind in the US food industry and Dezefoods is determined to be the platform for a chance to show the world what the continent can offer, how it could benefit consumers and the exotic taste that comes with its consumption. On this blog, the focus would be on the West African and Nigerian specialty foods. Why? African specialty foods gives you that nostalgic feeling, you always want to remember and for the non-Africans, the exotic taste of Africa you will never forget once you get a piece of it, not to talk of the sense of belonging to the home of all civilization and the cradle of mankind. It is natural for humans to connect through food, music, clothing styles, language, etc. Therefore, connect with the motherland and all it has to offer. Most of the foods from Africa are natural and organic, free from chemicals. This alone should be enough reason to intentionally want African made dishes or foods. Consequently, I urge you to embrace African foods and contact dezefoods for its several creations and foods.
