OSE OJI ALSO KNOWN AS OKWU OSE
AN IMPERATIVE FARE IN TRADITIONAL NIGERIAN GATHERINGS
Dezefoods is proud to provide African specialty foods, such as Ose Oji and different spices in the diaspora. Ose Oji, also known as Okwu Ose, it is our signature creation and considered an outstanding unique nutritional food in the Nigerian food culture. Ose Oji, is peanut butter with a twist; made from natural organic peanuts and several special African spices. Though, it has been in the Igbo culture as one of the prevalent traditional foods in the eastern part of Nigeria for generations. It is unique and different from the regular peanut butter found in the West. Ose Oji with the number of spices it contains, makes it quite spicy. It is immensely valued for traditional events such as weddings, traditional marriage rites, naming ceremonies, community meetings, town reunion conventions, etc.
OSE OJI IS A SPECIALTY FOOD
Ose Oji is a specialty food, because the ingredients used in making it are not readily available in the diaspora. There are several variations of this food, but the real deal is the ones made with the original traditional Nigerian recipe of the ancient ancestors. Anyone can make Ose Oji, but it takes an expert to make the real authentic traditional kind with the right ingredients, measurements and proportions. Making any kind of food is an art and requires immense knowledge to discern what ingredients are needed and the right method to produce a unique and tasteful Ose Oji. That’s why Deze Foods has taken interest in ensuring it’s made readily available to the Africans in diaspora and non-Africans that desire to connect through food with the African heritage.
CONTENTS OF THE OSE OJI AND IT’S BENEFITS
The main ingredient is natural organic Groundnuts as known in Nigerian or Peanuts and spices native to the Igbos of eastern Nigeria. The taste of this unique food wakes up the clogged up taste buds and opens your sinuses, because of the spices and herbs it contains. It is actually medicinal in my opinion. The Ose Oji, is eaten traditionally with what Nigerians call Garden eggs, and Kola nuts. But may be eaten with any other food of your choice. An alternative to the garden eggs, would be eggplant of any kind found in any of the groceries here in the diaspora. It is highly indulging, especially when there is a need to relax in the evenings or weekends with Garden eggs and the Ose Oji, accompanying it with a glass of red wine for a complete delight. You can say it’s also a comfort food without worrying about gaining additional weight. Ose Oji is a healthy snack as well, for the health conscious folks.
Ose Oji, is a unique food, anyone can indulge in, without worries of weight gain and of course for its paramount traditional uses at events. Ose Oji is imperatively used in opening prayers, at any African or Nigerian gathering, amongst the easterners of Nigeria before anything on the event’s agenda is addressed. It is an important fare in the Igbo cultural settings and everything that has to do with tradition. Ose Oji is the center of all of it all.
